Inside 3 Balloons in Roanoke, every shift is a chance for adults with intellectual disabilities to gain job training, inspire creativity, and earn a paycheck. What began as a children’s book store a year ago now offers handmade art, crafts, and gifts all made on-site.
Director Steve Stinson says seeing that personal growth across the team has been a major highlight of year one.
“Mostly what you hear from the parents is that their kids are just super happy just to be there,” Stinson said. “I see the growth within the shop. We have multi-color pieces on the wall now that were done three weeks ago right next to single-color pieces done a year ago. It took the same amount of time to do a complicated piece today as a simple one a year ago. The growth in ability and skill is astonishing.”
To celebrate its one-year anniversary, 3 Balloons is giving the community a chance to meet the staff, browse products for 50% off, and participate in a scavenger hunt throughout the store.
The event begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, November 7th.
