Erivo and Grande grew close while working on the two-part Wicked film adaptation, where Erivo plays Elphaba and Grande plays Glinda. The project required a long production schedule, major press appearances, and a high level of public attention, which Erivo said helped bring them closer.
She described their connection as something built through trust and shared experience. Erivo also said they made a pact to look after each other during the process, especially because of the emotional and physical demands of the work.
